William Ekong has revealed that his biggest disappointment as a Super Eagles star was as painful as it was also as fulfilling.
The experienced defender listed the loss in the 2018 World Cup group game against Argentina as well as the defeat by Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 AFCON recently.
“The game against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup was as disappointing as losing the (2023 AFCON) final in Abidjan,” he told Eagle7fm in an interview.
“It was great to be in the final after everything we had to overcome.
“There were tears, we were upset, overwhelmed, it was an anti-climax.”
The Super Eagles lost African football biggest prize, but Ekong was named the AFCON MVP.
“It was very special, very humbling,” he described.
“This was to have been my last tournament for the Super Eagles.
“Now it has made me hungrier to win a trophy with the team.”
Victor Boniface came off the bench to score his 12th goal in the Bundesliga as Bayer Leverkusen shot down hosts Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 to now go 48 games undefeated this season.
