Will Gabriel Osho take his Super Eagles chance?

Gabriel Adebayo Osho has been handed a chance to fly high with the Super Eagles in friendlies against Ghana and Mali and it is now up to the Luton Town central defender to make the most of it.

SCORENigeria has provided an all-round analysis of the England-born defender who this season features in the Premier League.

Gabriel Osho – Solid

Born to Nigerian parents in Reading, England, on August 14, 1998, the 25 year old has been a joy to watch as Luton Town returned to Premier League after many years in the wilderness.

Osho is a utility player, who features mainly as a right-sided centre back, but he can also function efficiently at right full back as well as a defensive midfielder.

Despite playing for Luton Town, Gabriel Osho has only been booked thrice (yellow cards only) this season, in over 1,300 minutes with a booking rate of 466 minutes per card.

Gabriel Osho has also been something ofa journey man in England, having played for Maidenstone United and Aldershot Town, both on loan in 2018; Bristol City on loan in 2019, Ipswich town also in 2019, Yeovil Town and Salford City before he got a transfer to EFL Championship side Luton Town on a permanent deal in November 2020.

He scored a huge goal for ‘The Hatters in their play-off semi-final on the way to the Premier League.

Defensively, Osho has managed 26 interceptions, won 66 out of 133 ground duels, 23 aerial duels and getting dribbled past just nine times.

Osho has also blocked 19 shots, made 64 clearances and given away no penalties in the Premier League.

He has only conceded 29 goals and kept two clean sheets in 16 matches in the Premier League for a relegation-threatened side.

Attacking wise, Gabriel Osho has a whopping pass completion rate of 82.21%, making 422/517 successful passes with a rating of 27.36, with two goals and no assists in all 16 premier league played this season.

Considering Osho’s impressive statistics, filling into the Super Eagles defence, which will now have to be reorganized in the absence of injured stand-in captain, William Troost Ekong should not be difficult for this solid player.
