Minister to NFF: Hire foreign coach if you can pay him

Sports Minister John Enoh has thrown a big challenge to the NFF over the choice of a new coach for the Super Eagles – you can appoint a foreign coach only if you can pay him.

The minister tasked a high-powered NFF delegation when they met with him as deliberations continue over the appointment of a coach for the country’s national team.

The Government has made it clear it will not foot the salary bills of a foreign coach as the debate for the suitability of an expartraite coach has raged on.

The minister then charged the NFF to “look inwards” for their man.

Over the years, the NFF have often ran into difficulties to pay a foreign coach his salary as and when due.

In January, the Government coughed out $1.3 Million to clear the outstanding salaries of Jose Peseiro before the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Gernot Rohr needed the intervention of world football governing body FIFA before he could get his unpaid salaries and entitlements from the NFF.
