Match winner Iwobi celebrates famous victory

Alex Iwobi has said Fulham confidence has been lifted after his stoppage time goal earned them first win since October 2003 at Manchester United.

Iwobi, fresh from the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, made up for missing at least two fine chances in the first half with a well-taken match winner deep in added time after compatriot gave his team the lead.

The London club are now 12th on the Premier League table after inflicting United their 10th loss of the season and their first of 2024.

“We always had the ability to create chances, we had so many in the final third, it was just about taking them and luckily I was able to take mine at the end,” he said.

“I’m over the moon right now to come back into the team and get the win here – there is no better feeling.

“We feel we performed really well and have been performing really well recently, it is just about getting the results. This will give us a world of confidence and hopefully kick on. Everyone’s emotion is high and we will have to dust down, but it is a confidence boost.

“It’s a win for the memory bank.”

Fulham boss Marco Silva said the better team on the day won.

“It is a big win for us. For sure, a great feeling for our fans, who were loud from the first to the last whistle,” he said.

“The players deserved it, clearly the best team won the game. We were the team which played better, created more chances and had more control of the game. It is a fantastic feeling for us to come here and win against a side in a good run of form.”
