Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has demanded for a training camp in Europe for his team to prepare for the challenge that ‘Group of Death’ at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nigeria tonight qualified for the Olympics since 2008 after they overcame South Africa 1-0 on aggregate following a goalless draw in Pretoria.
Waldrum said he now wants the Super Falcons to prepare well so as to compete in a tough-looking first round group that has world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil.
“My plea is to help us to prepare properly, we need to camp in Europe, we need proper training, proper transportation, we need to do things right,” he said.
“Every team at the Olympics is top, like the World Cup, we’re in the ‘Group of Death’.”
Waldrum praised his team for getting the job done in South Africa after a slim 1-0 win at home in Abuja last week.
“The team did everything we asked of them to get the result,” he saluted.
“We knew South Africa will come at us, we respect them but this was our seventh or eighth clean sheet, we have been very good defensively
“With time and some proper work, we will also be better on the offensive side, which everyone is asking for.”
The Texan said he was delighted the team broke a 16-year jinx to qualify for the Olympics.
“I am extremely excited, very thankful to qualify after 16 years, I appreciate the support,” he said.
Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade, who got the goal in Abuja that qualified the country to the summer games, simply said: “I am so filled with emotions, thank you Jesus.”
