South Africa Legend pained to lose to ‘poor’ Super Falcons

Legendary South African star Portia Modise said she is terribly disappointed her country failed to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics against a “poor” Nigerian team who “did not scare us”.

The Nigerian flag and not that of South Africa will be flying at the Olympics in July after the Super Falcons edged past Banyana Banyana 1-0 on aggregate over two legs.

Soweto-born Modise now 40 was MVP of the 2006 WAFCON and was the first African player to reach the 100-international goal milestone.

She won a record 124 caps for South Africa.

“I am hurt even now after seeing the game, it’s my first time to see a poor Nigeria team like this since I started football, we needed to beat that team, they didn’t have anything to scare us,” she lambasted.

She has also demanded that Desiree Ellis step down as coach of Banyana Banyana after eight years at the helm because she favours certain players.
