Premier League club boss condemns Super Eagles Libya saga

Ahead of today’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Fulham boss Marco Silva has explained that the treatment meted out by the Libyans on the Super Eagles, who had two of his key players (Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey), was something that should not be in football.

The Super Eagles had their flight to Libya for a 2025 AFCON qualifier diverted, before the team were held hostage for about 20 hours.

Marco Silva said this was not acceptable.

“And for sure, it was not a moment that Calvin, Alex and their teammates enjoyed for sure. It’s not something professional, it’s not something normal,” the Fulham manager blasted.

“It’s not something that should be involved in football, to be honest.”

The Fulham boss said both players have recovered from the trauma in Libya and will be available for the match against Aston Villa.

“They are back again with us. The first two days were tough for them to recover from everything, but they are going to be ready for sure,” he assured.
