Osayi Samuel left off the hook over fans fight

Bright Osayi-Samuel has escaped the wrath of the Turkish football federation for engaging in a brawl with fans who invaded the pitch after Fenerbache won 3-2 at Trabzonspor last month.

The Super Eagles defender was one of three Fenerbache players who appeared before the Turkish federation disciplinary panel.

There were initial fears that Osayi-Samuel could be banned for as many as 10 matches going by the rules and regulations of the Turkish Super Lig.

His two other teammates were not so lucky as they were slammed with a one-match ban each.

Trabzonspor will also play six home games behind closed doors, while an assistant coach was also suspended.

In the meantime,Fernabahçe general club meeting Tuesday decided against the club pulling out of the Super Lig.

The Turkish giants concluded they will remain in the league despite being victims of the violence at Trabzonspor.

The club chairman told the congress that they had decided to stay in the league because they will face same even in the lower division.

Ali Koc said: “In all our meetings, the least preferred option was to withdraw from the league.

“The reason why this opinion is not wanted is that people think we would have to deal in the lower league with the same things we deal with here.

“We are taking this option off the table until the general assembly at the end of the season.”
