‘If Arokodare was great all season Genk would be top of table’

Genk are now very much in the race for the Belgian league title thanks in part to the goals of Tolu Arokodare, who has now scored 11 goals this season.

They are now just four points behind leaders Anderlecht (38 points) in a tight fight for the championship in the playoffs.

However, according to Thomas Chatelle, his former club Genk could even have been top of the table had Arokodare been consistent this season.

Injury and a dip in form during the season caused questions to be asked about the striker.

“We finally see the striker that Genk had hoped for when they brought him in more than a year ago,” Chatelle told Het Belang van Limburg.

“If Tolu had performed at this level all season, Genk would now be at the top of the table.”

For Chatelle, Genk are now fully back in contention for the title.

The title battle, which was initially only going to be between Union SG (35 points) and Anderlecht, has now been opened up to a battle between four clubs.

If Genk won at second-placed Club Brugge (36 points) Wednesday, the title race in Belgium will be wide open again.
