EXCLUSIVE: Why Eguavoen may miss 2025 CHAN playoffs

SCORENigeria can exclusively reveal that Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is now in serious danger of missing out on the 2025 CHAN playoffs against arch-rivals Ghana.

‘Cerezo’ has been conspicuously missing at the Ikenne training camp of the CHAN Eagles preparatory to the final playoff against the Galaxies of Ghana.

Coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, who have also assisted him in the Super Eagles, have been handling the home-based Eagles after it emerged that Eguavoen has had to fly out of the country on “a medical emergency”.

It was further gathered by SCORENigeria that Eguavoen, who recently returned from a FIFA programme in Argentina, had originally planned for a major medical procedure after the CHAN playoffs, but was forced to change his plans when it became imperative he had to do something about his health.

The CHAN Eagles will be away to their Ghanaian counterparts on December 22, before the reverse tie in Uyo six days later.

The overall winners will feature at the 2025 CHAN to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
