Breakout season ends for Yira Sor after surgery

“During the home match against Standard, Yira Sor remained in the dressing room at halftime with a groin complaint,” reported a club statement.

“Initial investigations in the days after the match were inconclusive. Together with the club doctor, Sor therefore went to London for a second opinion. That did bring clarity. The fast Nigerian suffered a tear of the groin.

“While there was initially hope that we would be able to recover Yira during the playoffs, it has now become clear that his season is unfortunately over.

Yira will go under the knife today (Friday), after which the rehabilitation can start, and we will prepare him for the start of next season.

“The entire Genk family wishes Sor a speedy recovery.”

The speedy winger has enjoyed his best season in Belgium, scoring six goals in 20 league appearances playing mainly as a winger.
