Super Eagles battle Rwanda again with eyes fixed on 2026 World Cup qualification

The Super Eagles may have qualified for the 2025 AFCON, but Monday’s final qualifier against Rwanda ought to take more added significance because both teams will square up again in March when the qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup resumes.

The Amavubis of Rwanda will welcome the Super Eagles to Kigali again after both teams played out a goalless draw in September.

Incidentally, Rwanda lead Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with seven points and a +2 goals difference after four rounds of matches.

Both South Africa and Benin are also on seven points and +1 goals difference, but Bafana Bafana edge it as they have scored more goals than the Cheetahs.

Unfortunately, Nigeria languish second from bottom with three points and a -1 goals difference.

A big home win by Nigeria over Rwanda in Uyo Monday will therefore be a huge morale booster for both the team and fans that the Super Eagles will go on to record their first win in the World Cup qualifying series in Rwanda in March 2026.

The Super Eagles will then be aiming to complete a six-pointer with a home win over bottom team Zimbabwe days later to get their World Cup qualifying campaign finally back on track.
