SCORENigeria can exclusively report that senior players of the Super Eagles have opened up to NFF president Ibrahim Gusau – they have not received the necessary motivation to play for the team as they are owed a lot of monies and nothing is being done to clear these outstanding debts.
The players met with Gusau at the Novotel Hotel in Abidjan after they held Benin to a 1-1 draw and secured their qualification to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The Super Eagles listed some of the monies they are yet to be paid by the NFF –
1)Outstanding bonuses and allowances dating back to 2022, which have been released by President Bola Tinubu to the NFF
2) Promises of houses by the Federal Government after they reached the 2023 AFCON final yet to be redeemed
3) No bonuses or camp allowances since the 2025 AFCON qualifiers began in September
4) Flight ticket refunds for recent Super Eagles games
One of the players who spoke at the meeting told the NFF president that the situation is so embarrassing to most of them that they no longer receive the usual camp allowances even if paid in Naira.
This has been the case since the 2025 AFCON qualifiers began in September.
The Super Eagles have therefore demanded a commitment from the NFF when all these monies will be paid.
This agitation is coming ahead of the resumption of crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.
Nigeria are in serious danger of missing out on the expanded 2026 World Cup even though Africa could be represented by as many as 10 teams at the global football showpiece.
They are second from bottom with three points after four rounds of matches, four points behind front runners Rwanda, South Africa and Benin.
