Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are two of the Super Eagles top stars, but with uncertainties over their club future should they be selected for 2025 AFCON qualifiers next month.
Both Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are no longer training with their respective clubs as speculations heighten over their next destination before the transfer window closes on August 30.
It is therefore understandable that the focus of both players would be their next clubs after they made it clear they want out from their current teams.
This will be one of the top calls of whoever is in charge of the Super Eagles opening 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
These qualifiers are important because of the points at stake on the road to Morocco 2025 and have taken added significance because both teams are also in Nigeriaβs 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
Rwanda lead the World Cup qualifying group with seven points after four rounds of matches, while Benin also have seven points but an inferior goals difference.
Victories over both teams in the AFCON qualifiers will be a massive morale booster ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament in March 2025.
The Super Eagles languish second from bottom of the qualifying group and therefore need all the encouragement they can get leading up to resumption of the World Cup qualifiers.
