Tomorrow the Super Eagles will not only try to fly past home team Rwanda in a 2025 AFCON qualifier, but they will also have to do so playing on the artificial pitch at the Amahoro Stadium.
The mostly Europe-based stars of the Super Eagles are not familiar with the hybrid astro-turf pitch that has been fitted into the renovated Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
A top team official completely condemned the pitch.
“It’s not a good pitch,” he said.
“I just hope it does not affect the boys.”
The local weather condition in Kigali should favour the visiting Super Eagles as it is generally cold even though by match time the sun will be high.
This AFCON qualifier also affords the Super Eagles the chance to test their might against the leading team in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Amavubi of Rwanda top the World Cup qualifying group with seven points from four matches, four points clear of second from bottom Nigeria.
The World Cup qualifiers will resume in March.
