Super Falcons energetic midfielder Deborah Abiodun has told SCORENigeria she is already fulfilled to be playing professional football with Dallas Trinity FC, which has been her life-long target.
The hardworking midfield star said it’s a dream come true and hopes to move higher in her career choice which was tough considering what her family wanted for her.
The Full Interview:
SCORENigeria: This is your first time playing as a professional footballer at club level, how do you feel?
Deborah Abiodun: I am fulfilled, I am super excited and super grateful for this opportunity.
It’s nothing but a dream come true for me. It has been a long journey coming for me.
I just watched your team win 6-0 against Brooklyn FC, what do you have to say?
I am excited. It’s a big one after break. We are all excited. It is a collective effort.
In Nigeria, parents don’t see football as what female child/children should do, was your case different?
You are right. My own case was complicated because I am the only daughter. My mum was at war with me and me playing football was a NO NO for her. It wasn’t an easy or rosy decision for me. I am delighted I didn’t stop.

What drove you to take to football?
Back home in Nigeria, there is not much publicity for female football so it’s hard to see the progress. My brother inspired me a lot, I followed him everywhere to play football. Later I started knowing the likes of Evelyn Nwabaoku, Asisat Oshoala, Halimatu Ayinde, Cecilia Nku, Alex Morgan, Mara.
How has it been at Dallas Trinity FC?
It’s a great feeling here. Dallas Trinity FC are a one big family, I love it here. It’s a big privilege playing here professionally.
What do you have to tell the players who are aspiring like you did back home in Nigeria?
My advise for them is that they should not relent, it might be difficult at the beginning, you have to trust your passion, keep the fire burning, don’t let anyone hold you down. Believe in yourself and keep pushing, the breakthrough will surely come.
Thank you for your time Deborah.
It’s my pleasure
