Super Eagles striker Awoniyi, Dessers keep firing on

Strikers Taiwo Awoniyi and Cyriel Dessers may have missed out on the Super Eagles splendid run at the 2023 AFCON, but they have continued to score crucial goals for their respective clubs as the league season across Europe gathers steam.

The former Box-to-Box graduate scored for the second straight game as Genk beat RWDM 3-1 at home to continue to push for a Top-4 finish that will get them into the Championship playoffs. They have 40 points from 26 games, five points behind third-placed Club Brugge. Arokodare has now scored eight goals in 23 league appearances this season.

The Super Eagles striker is one of the reasons Rangers are now top of the table in Scotland after he netted twice in a 3-1 win over Ross County in a postponed game earlier last week. The win put Rangers on equal footing with Glasgow rivals Celtic, before they finally toppled them with a 3-0 win at St-Johnstone Sunday. Rangers now have 64 points, two points ahead of Celtic, while Dessers has scored 10 goals in 23 league appearances.

Nottingham Forest have again boosted their chances of staying up in the Premier League courtesy of a 2-0 win over West Ham United at the weekend with Super Eagles striker Awoniyi grabbing the first goal. They are now five points clear of the relegation zone. Awoniyi has now scored thrice in all three starts vs West Ham. He has netted six goals in the Premier League after overcoming another injury layoff. Last season, the 26-year-old striker finished as his club’s top scorer with 10 goals to keep them afloat.
