Super Eagles defender races to be fit for World Cup qualifiers

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel is now in a race to be fit for next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin due to injury.

His Turkish club Fenerbache confirmed he suffered injury in his left ankle, which could rule him out for at least two weeks.

Osayi had to be withdrawn in the 53rd minute of his team’s goalless draw with Konyaspor, for medical examinations carried out at Açibadem Hospital Wednesday night.

As stated in an official statement from Fernabahçe via ntvspor, Osayi Samuel suffered an edema and bleeding in his left ankle which means he is expected to be out for two weeks.

Hopefully, he could be back in time for their derby against table toppers Galatasaray on May 19 in their title chase.

Second-placed Fenerbache sit six points behind their Istanbul rivals.
