The Ibadan club now have 49 points from 30 matches, two points behind third-placed Lobi.
They have won their last three games after a famous win at Kano Pillars.
Alex Aghahowa put Shooting Stars ahead after three minutes after goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel spilled a free kick.
Douglas Achiv doubled this lead in the second half after the Lobi goalkeeper again failed to hold on to a shot by Christian Pygbara.
They battle bottom team Heartland in their next NPFL tie.
