SCORENigeria Top 5: Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman show class again

Fresh from international duty with the Super Eagles, Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi showed their class back with their clubs in Europe.

5.Wilfred Ndidi

Leicester City recorded their first point on return to the Premier League courtesy of a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace with the Super Eagles midfielder delivering the assists for their goals. ‘The Foxes’ are touted as relegation candidates, but the form of Ndidi will be one reason they will battle to stay up.

Tolu Arokodare

4.Tolu Arokodare

The big striker is the leading scorer in Belgium with five goals after he got among the goals in a 3-2 win by Genk at Cercle Brugge. It was an apt way for him to let the fans know that his future is with Genk after Turkish giants Trabzonspor came calling recently. Last season, he netted double-digit and for this campaign he will be expected to do a lot more and fulfill his true potential and why he was a direct replacement for fellow Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu, who scored for fun for the same club.

3.Yira Sor

The former Flying Eagles winger scored a goal and provided an assist for Genk to win 3-2 at Cercle Brugge in the Belgian league. He will play a big role for Genk in this campaign as long as he stays fit.

2.Ademola Lookman

He marked his first start of the new season with a goal and an assist for Atalanta to win their second game in Serie A against visiting Fiorentina 3-2. He was named Man of the Match. His match winner in first half stoppage time proved his class as he fooled the entire Fiorentina defence before he slotted home by the first post. Arsenal will have to keep an eye on him when they travel to Atalanta this week for UEFA Champions League action. He is most certainly The Man on Fire as he showed on international duty with Nigeria – grabbing a brace in a 3-0 home win over Benin only for the referee to chalk off his goal against hosts Rwanda in Kigali few days later. The smart money is on him to be the CAF Player of the Year 2024.

1.Victor Boniface

He was Man of the Match when Bayer Leverkusen shot down home team Hoffenheim 4-1 in the Bundesliga. He scored a brace and provided an assist in this win on the road. They were two well-taken goals and underlined his ice-cool composure inside the box. However, the main talking point was his goal celebration – he faced his club’s traveling fans, brought down his shorts before doing “a nice dance” to celebrate his goal. He said it was challenge with a social media influencer back in Nigeria and he will continue to do this when he scores.
