SCORENigeria Top 5: Chrisantus Uche new star in La Liga, Victor Boniface off to winning start

Victor Boniface continued where he left off last season with Bayer Leverkusen by scoring a goal for his club to win the Super Cup in Germany, while Chrisantus Uche completed his grass-to-grace story by firing a goal on his La Liga debut.

The much-traveled striker has enjoyed a bright and productive start to the new season and he continued in that vein by coming off the bench to score and provide an assist against St.Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup for Rangers. A section of the Rangers fans ought to now begin to show him a lot more respect after deriding him since last season.  

4.Tolu Akorodare

Trabzonspor transfer target Arokodare scored his fourth goal in three Belgian league matches for Genk to beat promoted Beerschot. The striker fired a brace in a 3-2 home win. This comes amid speculations over his future after reports linked him with a major transfer to Turkey. The Belgian press has labeled him “greedy” after he asked for an annual salary of 2.5 Million Euros, which could now scuttle the deal.  

3.Victor Boniface

The Super Eagles striker is off to a flying start with German double champions Bayer Leverkusen as they helped themselves to another major trophy – the German Super Cup. He scored the opening goal in a 2-2 draw with VfB Stuttgart before Leverkusen went on to win via penalties. A lot more is expected of the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year this new campaign.

2.Peter Olayinka

The Super Eagles forward announced his return to action with two goals in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Curicki of Romania for Red Star Belgrade to advance to the playoffs against Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt. He showed great character to deliver after a proposed transfer to former club Slavia Praha fell through.

1.Chrisantus Uche

A few years ago, he was playing in the lower leagues in Spain and this past weekend he scored on his La Liga debut for Getafe to earn a draw at Athletic Bilbao on the opening day of the new season. Originally a midfielder, Uche played as a striker and delivered on his biggest day in football. The spotlight has most certainly fallen on him after that performance and it will be interesting how he responds.
