Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has made a strong declaration that Benin will qualify for the 2026 World Cup after they sealed qualification for next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
On Tuesday night, Benin defied many odds to hold hostile hosts Libya to a goalless draw to book their ticket to the 2025 AFCON.
Rohr qualified Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in style and he has now said the new ambition is to also qualify Benin to the global football finals for the first time in their history.
“We have qualified for the AFCON. We worked hard for this,” the Franco-German coach declared.
“Now, we will aim to qualify for the World Cup.”
Benin have the same seven points from four matches with front runners Rwanda and South Africa in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which also have the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
