Peseiro won’t be Cameroon new coach

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro will not be the next coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon after that country’s sports ministry went ahead to appoint its own choice for the post.

This will be the second top post Peseiro will miss out on after Algeria appointed another man to lead their own national team.

On Monday, Belgian coach Marc Brys was appointed new Cameroon coach.

Peseiro won’t be Cameroon new coach

Sports Minister Narcisse Kombi chaired the unveiling with FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o Fils conspicuously absent after his public spat with the minister over this appointment.

Eto’o Fils said he got his invitation late and he has been fully engaged in the funeral of his father.

This was after FECAFOOT emergency committee ordered him to appoint a new national team coach within 72 hours.

Peseiro was one of the three coaches shortlisted by FECAFOOT to lead the Indomitable Lions.

In a rare speech to the country on February 10, aged Cameroon President Paul Biya ordered the sports minister to appoint a new coach in place of Rigobert Song after a failed AFCON campaign.

In 2007, then FECAFOOT President Iya Mohammed disagreed with the sports minister over the appointment of Otto Pfister as the country’s new coach.

A little later, Iya Mohammed was charged for corruption and he has been languishing in prison for the past 11 years.
