He has already lost his first-team spot and the fans have continued to bash him for missing open goals and now Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has opened up on his “difficult” situation at Scottish giants Rangers.
“Last month I lost my starting spot. The boy who is playing now is also a good striker (Hamza Igamane, ed.), he also scores,” he told Voetbal International.
“I try to support him and help him. I want the team to win. But it is difficult. I don’t know what my perspective is now.”
Dessers still has two years left on his contract with Rangers. His market value at the moment is 4 million euros, but the club paid one more for him.
“I can imagine that Rangers might want to earn something from me now,” he continued.
“But January is a difficult window. Clubs that are doing well probably also have a striker who is doing well. And few clubs that need goals will immediately have the millions ready.
“We have to wait and see. I am at a great club, but I am 30 years old and want to play every week.”
A transfer to the Eredivisie seems the most obvious choice.
“Feyenoord now has three excellent strikers. The other clubs I played for also have a special place in my heart. But I do have a certain price and there are only a few clubs that can pay that,” he said.
