Joseph Njenga was arrested and imprisoned in 2007 over robbery with violence after he was found in possession of stolen property.

Speaking to Inooro TV, the former inmate who left the heavily guarded prison explained that though he was caught in possession of the stolen vehicle, he did not participate in the stealing.

He blamed his misfortune on the wrong circle of friends he was involved in.

“I was arrested for being in possession of the stolen property. I could not explain to the court how the vehicle ended up in my possession,” he said, adding that, being a first offender, he did not know how to navigate the case.

Now, 17 years later, Njenga is ready to start a new life after finishing his sentence.

“I am so happy because my husband has been released from jail after 17 years. I have been waiting for him for all these years. I have persevered a lot, but now he is here,” she said.

The woman, Joyce Njenga, said her faith in God kept her faithful to her husband for all those years.

The couple is now set to start their new life in Nyandarua County.
