HALFTIME: Golden Eaglets 2 Ghana 2

It has been an entertaining, keenly contested first half of this WAFU B U17 AFCON third-place match between the Golden Eaglets and hosts Ghana with scores standing at 2-2.

Nigeria took the lead after just nine minutes, when Imrana Muhammad shot home from inside the box after he was set up by Abdulmuiz Adeleke.

The Black Starlets drew level on 20 minutes through central defender Harve Gbafa.

They then took the lead in the 29th minute with a magical back-heeled goal by Gbafa off a free kick from the right of the Nigerian goal.

The Eaglets then chased the game in search for a leveler with Boluwatife Ekishola and Edward Ochigbo all coming close.

Adeleke finally got a deserved equaliser on 40 minutes when he headed home a cross from the right by John Ogwuche.

Ghana won the third-place match two years ago when they edged past Cote d’Ivoire 3-2.

There is everything to play for in the second half.

Golden Eaglets Starting XI vs Ghana: Chinedu Dominic – Sylvester Chika, Chibuike Okorie, Boluwatife Ekishola, Abdulwaris Yunus – Destiny Samuel, John Ogwuche, Simon Cletus (Captain) – Imrana Muhmmad, Abdulmuiz Adeleke, Edward Ochigbo
