Finidi to Super Eagles: Nigeria bigger than your club

Finidi George has said Super Eagles stars have to be fully committed when they play for the country because it is much more important than when they feature for their various foreign clubs.

“I will tell the players that playing for Nigeria is bigger than playing for your various clubs,” the new Super Eagles coach said during his media tour.

He said this against the backdrop that the Super Eagles are under pressure to get their 2026 World Cup campaign back on track after a tentative start.

They face South Africa and Benin next month and the coach maintained the Super Eagles have to win both matches.

“These are must-win games for us to be comfortable in our group. I believe we will win both games,” he said.

“We have to believe we can win, the (2023) AFCON is gone, we now have to put in the effort to win again.”

He disclosed that a 35-man provisional squad will cover the growing list of injured stars, who will not be available for the two World Cup qualifiers.
