Federation Cup Shocks: Enyimba, Shooting Stars, Akwa United out

Today, NPFL champions Enyimba, Shooting Stars and Akwa United were sent packing from this year’s President Federation Cup by lower league clubs.

Second-tier club Sokoto United eliminated Enyimba in a Round of 16 clash, while Kebbi United saw off Akwa United 1-0 to qualify for the quarterfinal of the cup competition.

Shooting Stars run in the cup also ended today when they were beaten 1-0 another lower league club El Kanemi Warriors.

Sunshine Stars outscored Rivers United 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Lucky Nwafor to advance to the last-eight.

Kano Pillars won the Northwest Derby against fellow NPFL club Katsina United 8-7 on penalties after fulltime scores stood at 1-1.

The winners of the Federation Cup will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.
