EXCLUSIVE – Super Eagles: Where is our money?

More than two months after President Bola Tinubu approved a staggering 12 Billion Naira to clear their outstanding bonuses and allowances, the Super Eagles are yet to enjoy this generosity as they are still to receive most of the cash owed them.

SCORENigeria can exclusively report that the NFF have only paid the Super Eagles two out of about 29 match bonuses and allowances they are owed.

The two match bonuses so far cleared are the home games of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe and Sierra Leone.

Each player received two million Naira, a million Naira per each home game.

A top source informed SCORENigeria: “The players have not received anything since those payments, which they got during the recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.”

Then Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro had to severally call on their sense of patriotism and quest for personal glory for the players to shelve any pay strikes during the AFCON.

The players themselves were up in arms against captain Ahmed Musa, who they accused of not fighting for them to get the money they worked hard for.

It is known that at least two senior players confronted Ahmed Musa on their outstanding bonuses and allowances that go back as far as 2021.

This week, the Super Eagles are in Morocco for friendlies, first against arch-rivals Ghana Friday, before another versus Mali four days later.

They then face two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June after they could only manage two draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the opening rounds of the qualifiers in November.
