Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has been described as “another Westerhof” who can lift the country’s football team to greater heights.
Dutch coach Clemens Westerhof led the Super Eagles to win the 1994 AFCON in Tunisia and made history when he qualified the country to their first-ever World Cup same year.
The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who recently hosted Eric Chelle to a dinner to welcome him to Nigeria, has compared the former Mali coach to ‘Dutch-gerian’ Westerhof.
“Eric is an unknown coach who is ready to give everything because history beckons,” Adeniyi told Eagles 7 FM
“He’s another Westerhof.
“He wants to qualify the biggest team in Africa to the World Cup because it can only be good for his CV.
“He’s a serious-minded coach, who engages his players.
“He’s not in Nigeria for the money, he got much more at his former club.
“The bigger motivation is to make history and he hopes to infect this motivation on the whole team.
“Hopefully, this passion and enthusiasm will be there for the first must-win match in Rwanda.”
