Dessers thrilled his goals keep Rangers top

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers was thrilled after he scored twice to take his tally to 16 in all competitions this season as Rangers trounced third-placed Hearts 5-0 to maintain top place in Scotland.

Rangers are now five points clear of reigning champions and local rivals Celtic with 67 points from 27 matches.

“We are in a really good place and we want to stay there,” Dessers told Rangers TV.

“We have to keep going, just focus on ourselves, do the things we have to do and that is what we are doing the whole week – working hard, doing the same thing every day and we have to keep going.

“I think it was a beautiful afternoon for everyone who loves Rangers. I think we played a really good game against a good team, let’s not forget they are third in the league and although the result is 5-0, they didn’t play a bad game and I think we were really effective.

“We did our job and you can see the atmosphere here at Ibrox, it is an amazing afternoon.

He added: “You feel in the first minutes at Ibrox, the energy is always buzzing but if you can score a goal at that point, it is a big knock for them. Dio made an amazing goal for the second week in a row now so let’s hope he can keep this going!

“It was hard work. Most of the teams in the league just play the ball long, but they wanted to try and play a little bit and I had to press like crazy and run a lot so you maybe lack a little bit of freshness when you have the ball but I think I did my job for the team and I am happy to get two goals in a massive win so I am really happy.”
