Mamelodi Sundowns Brazilian star Lucas Ribeiro tops the South African League goals chart with nine goals and has now been urged to feature for Bafana Bafana as they battle the Super Eagles to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
Ribeiro, 26, has netted 12 goals and made 10 assists in all competitions.
Former Sundowns defender Ricardo Nascimento has now asked his compatriot to change international allegiance to South Africa.
“This is a top player,” Nascimento told KickOff. “It would also be a great reinforcement for Bafana Bafana.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think they even know about him here in Brazil. That’s why I think it will be interesting that he plays for Bafana Bafana.”
Another South American linked with playing for Bafana Bafana is Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino of Kazier Chiefs, who since last year has been eligible to play for South Africa.
He is seen as a direct replacement for Themba Zwane, who will be sidelined by injury for an extended period.
