Amuneke: Best African Player crown fits Ademola Lookman

Emmanuel Amuneke has joined another former CAF Player of the Year Victor Ikpeba to endorse Ademola Lookman to also be named best player in Africa.

In May, Ademola Lookman fired a memorable hat-trick for Atalanta to win the UEFA Europa League.

His goals also helped the Super Eagles to reach the final of the 2023 AFCON in February.

He is the only African nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Amuneke said the Super Eagles star forward is now on course for continental recognition.

“He’s in line to be crowned CAF Player of the Year if he continues the way he is doing,” Amuneke said.

“I watched the last game against Rwanda, and his performance was outstanding. It shows that he has been able to consolidate himself with African football.”

Amuneke said Ademola Lookman succeeding Victor Osimhen will be a major boost for Nigerian football.

“When I won it, I think Ikpeba won it again, and then Kanu. If a Nigerian wins it next, it is definitely a joyous one,” he remarked.

“We need to continue to support our players, both in Europe and in our local leagues. We all need one another to form the ecological system that governs our football, for our football to strive.”
