Again Osimhen gives Napoli new hope

Fresh from the battles at the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, Victor Osimhen has brought new energy to Italian champions Napoli. First, in midweek he scored the equaliser to keep them alive in the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds against Barcelona. He then scored again in the league to secure them a draw at Cagliari.

The flying winger has added goals to his game this season after he fired his sixth of the league season when he came off the bench to grab the match winner for Genk at Sporting Charleroi. Last season, he only managed two goals. There is now an end product to his electric pace. The win keeps Genk within the six-team championship playoffs with three matches to the end of the regular season.

4.Cyriel Dessers

His critics say he wastes more chances than he scores, but the Super Eagles striker has so far netted 16 goals for Rangers across all competitions this season since his arrival from Italy. The tally includes a brace in a 5-0 thrashing of third-placed Hearts at the weekend to put them two points ahead of reigning champions and local rivals Celtic. He has earned a recall to the Super Eagles after he was overlooked for the AFCON.

3.Alex Iwobi

The bullies on social media have been put in their place by Iwobi after his well-taken winning goal for Fulham at Manchester United at the weekend. Goal scoring has never been his strongest suit and that was evident when he spurned at least two big chances in the first half at Old Trafford. But that cleverly drilled shot deep into stoppage time wrong footed goalkeeper Andre Onana to give Fulham all three points on a great night for the London club.

2.Calvin Bassey

The defender enjoyed a sparkling AFCON and he carried the confidence from that campaign to score the goal that inspired Fulham record their first win since October 2003 at Manchester United. This was also his first-ever Premier League goal. The happy-go-lucky Bassey has finally put behind a difficult one and only season at Ajax and he is now pushing to carve a niche for himself in the Premier League.

1.Victor Osimhen

The star striker has got going back with Napoli after the AFCON, which took a great deal out of him both mentally and physically. After he scored to get Napoli back on level pegging with Barcelona in the Champions League, he scored his eighth goal in Serie A this season in his 14th appearance at Cagliari. He is again giving everything even though it is well known that this is his last season at Napoli as he aims to take his football to another level in the summer. Hopefully, the injury that forced him out of the game late on at Cagliari is not so serious so that Napoli will continue to enjoy the goals and new energy he has brought.
