Leading Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport said today that less than two years after Victor Osimhen helped Napoli to their third Scudetto, the club have turned around to treat him like “a waste paper”.
The newspaper described the last 24 hours as “crazy” as Osimhen attempted to make a transfer away from Napoli.
It said the problem between club and player has been going on for some time, but it was still “senseless” that it will now end in a big mess.
Journalist Carlo Alvino said the Osimhen saga was one of unfulfilled promises.
“Those who made promises were not able to keep them,” he told Kiss Kiss Napoli Radio
“Napoli decided not to sell Osimhen and they did not sell him.
“Leaving him out of the squad should not be seen as a punishment because I believe that a gentleman’s agreement will be found even though in the last 24 hours not everyone behaved like a gentleman.
“I hope these last few days will give everyone a common sense to close this chapter.”
Transfer Expert Sacha Tavolieri said he was not shocked by how it has ended for Osimhen at Napoli.
“I knew it will end badly between Osimhen and Napoli when in his first meeting with his then agent, Lille officials, Guintoli (former Napoli sports director), Di Laurentiis, he refused a plate of tomato and Mozzarella. You don’t refuse tomato and Mozzarella,” he said.

Leading Turkish journalist Serdar Ali Celikler claimed Osimhen has agreed to join Manchester United, but there is yet to be an agreement between Napoli and the Premier League giants. Another journalist, Aygun Ozipek, was even more detailed ...
