Bruno Labbadia will not be the new coach of the Super Eagles after contract talks with the NFF broke down.
The NFF have since gone to town to defend a most embarrassing bungling of the appointment of a foreign coach for the country’s team that clearly underscores the incompetence and lack of capacity of the NFF leadership.
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau claimed “stringent” tax laws in Germany, which meant Labbadia will have to pay a huge part of his salary in taxes, caused the coach to reject the appointment.
However, according to Kicker, a German all-sports magazine, which first broke the news that Labbadia has walked away from the appointment, there were other reasons that led to contractual talks breaking down.
The publication reported: “The public rush of the association’s leadership is said to have been one of the reasons why Labbadia cancelled on Friday, in addition to the details that still need to be clarified.”
It further reported, “the collaboration ultimately failed due to organizational issues that could not be resolved in the short time available.”
Obviously these reasons are far beyond the tax issues that the NFF are now drumming away and in the coming days more information will be made known here.
