NPFL ROUNDUP: Enyimba win to keep pressure on leaders Enugu Rangers

Enyimba today won the ‘Oriental Derby’ at Abia Warriors to keep up the pressure on Enugu Rangers after Remo Stars title hopes suffered a setback at Kwara United.

Veteran Bernard Ovoke came off the bench to score a 72nd minute winner for Enyimba at Abia Warriors.

They are now second in the standings and four points behind Rangers, who won comfortably at home 3-0 against Bayelsa United.

Godwin Obaje netted a brace for Rangers.

Remo Stars fell 3-2 at Kwara United to drop to third on the table.

Home team Kwara United left it late to grab the full points courtesy of Dayo Ojo’s stoppage time winner doing the damage, with Super Eagles latest call-up Sodiq Ismail adding to his assists tally.

Shooting Stars were denied repeating the “win away” trend when Michael Ibe netted a late equaliser after 12 minutes were added in extra time.

The game ended 2-2.

Both Akwa United and Sunshine Stars climbed out of the relegation zone after Week 33 matches today.

Akwa United won 2-1 at Lobi Stars to climb to safety on goals difference.

Sunshine Stars and Bendel Insurance played out a scoreless draw, while NPFL Legend Rabiu Ali added to his assists tally as Kano Pillars defeated Doma United 3-1 at home to plunge the Gombe outfit in the drop zone.

In other results, Rivers United thrashed 14th placed Sporting Lagos 4-1 as they closed the gap between themselves and the top five as Plateau United and Niger Tornadoes shared the spoils in a goal less draw.

Relegation-troubled Heartland beat fellow relegation battlers Gombe United 3-0 to give them a glimmer of hope.
