The Super Eagles have to go for broke in today’s must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Uyo.
With qualifying group leaders South Africa now nine points clear at the top of the standings, Nigeria know that have to win today to keep alive their slim hopes to toppling Bafana Bafana to feature at next year’s World Cup.
SCORENigeria has therefore named a starting XI that will play the 4-4-2 diamond formation of coach Eric Chelle and get the job done today so that there will still be something to play for in team’s next qualifier Tuesday in South Africa.
Stanley Nwabali keeps his place in goal, while the defence will be led by captain William Ekong, who will play alongside Calvin Bassey in the heart of the back four, and the fullbacks will be Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel.
The midfield will have Wilfred Ndidi with Frank Onyeka bringing some fresh energy to help the tiring Ndidi in providing extra cover for the defence.
Samuel Chukwueze has been considered ahead of Alex Iwobi to play a free role as he did at the Unity Cup in London and shone.
Moses Simon is the main winger, whose blistering pace and directness will unlock the resolute Rwandese defence.
Despite his transfer troubles, Ademola Lookman should start as the second striker alongside Victor Osimhen.
