Both Victor Osimhen and Napoli are racing against time to make a transfer happen for the striker to Chelsea as Friday midnight deadline approaches fast.
There is a lot of positive energy from social media users in Nigeria that Osimhen’s 130 Million Euros release clause and his hefty salary of more than 10 Million Euros-a-year will be scaled before Deadline Day.
Corriere dello Sport has even gone ahead to say Osimhen is not interested in joining the London club.
The newspaper said joining Chelsea doesn’t excite him and negotiations will be “very complicated”, while suggesting that two other windows are open – PSG and Saudi Arabia.
But what would become of the Super Eagles star striker should he not quit Napoli?
Leading Italian sports publication Gazzetta dello Sport predicted that Osimhen risks a most frustrating few months at Napoli should he fail to leave especially as coach Antonio Conte has finally got his preferred striker Romelu Lukaku.
The newspaper said Osimhen will be frozen out till January, when the transfer window will re-open.
It will be so unless he opts for Saudi Arabia, where the transfer window is open until October 6.
Gazzetta dello Sport reported rather regretfully that the story of Osimhen and Napoli ought to have a better ending than him being treated as any other player and not the star who won Napoli their third Scudetto.
Osimhen has already rejected an offer by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis for him to take a huge pay cut (between Six and Seven Million Euros) and have his contract extended until 2030.
