Flying Eagles winger Clinton Jephta has declared the team want to again be champions of Africa at U20 level.
The Flying Eagles have won seven U20 AFCONs and will now be gunning for another title when the tournament kicks off April in Cote d’Ivoire.
They are drawn in ‘Group of Death’ along with Morocco, Egypt and South Africa.
“We want to win the U20 AFCON,” declared Enyimba winger Jephta, who inspired the Flying Eagles to beat the Ivorians 3-1 at last year’s WAFU B U20 AFCON qualifiers in Togo.
The U20 AFCON will serve as qualifiers for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
Jephta said the Flying Eagles took their chances in the second half Wednesday to beat their Ivorian counterparts 2-0 in a U20 AFCON warm-up game.
“It was not a bad game. In first half, we got a lot of chances, but could not use them, but we came back in the second half to use our chances,” he recounted.
“It was easy for us in the second half because we dominated the Ivorians in the second half and we won the match with determination and a positive mindset.
“The Ivorians are good side with talented players, but they were not lucky against us.”
Both teams will clash again in Abdijan Friday in a second test match.
