WAFCON best coach Madugu says Super Falcons never gave up

Justine Madugu, who was named by CAF as the best coach of the 2024 WAFCON, has said the team never stopped believing they could be champions again even when they fell behind twice in the final to hosts Morocco.

Home team Morocco raced into a two-goal lead after just 24 minutes of action in Saturday’s final, before the Super Falcons fought back to win 3-2 to extend their record to 10 WAFCON titles.

“If they didn’t have mental resilience, they would have given up,” Madugu said.

“But they kept believing and they earned this victory.”

The 61-year-old coach noted that the halftime pep talk was crucial in his team’s remarkable comeback.

“We did a lot of talking at halftime,” he revealed.

“We had a game plan, but what we wanted to avoid led to two goals (against us), and we had to make the changes we made.”
