Ugandan singer Bebe Cool has addressed the controversial 2020 incident involving the arrest of Nigerian artists Tems and Omah Lay, who were detained after performing at a concert in Kampala during the country’s strict COVID-19 lockdown.
Speaking in a recent interview, Bebe Cool denied having any role in orchestrating their arrest and provided a vivid explanation of what happened.

According to Bebe Cool, during the pandemic, Ugandan artists were prohibited from performing due to government restrictions, which left many financially strained.
However, a promoter received permission to host an event under the condition that no more than 200 attendees were allowed. Despite this, the concert reportedly welcomed over 2,000 people, violating the set guidelines.
He added that his earlier tweet criticising the government for allowing foreign artists to perform while local musicians were still banned had sparked rumours that he was behind the arrests.
He emphasised that while he publicly questioned the fairness of the situation, he was not involved in getting the Nigerian artists detained.
Bebe Cool reveals the role Davido played
Bebe Cool revealed that on the night of the arrests, he received a call from Nigerian superstar Davido, who expressed concern and believed Bebe Cool had a hand in the matter.
In response, Bebe Cool assured Davido that he would help secure the artists’ release, denying being behind it.
The singer said he worked behind the scenes, contacting officials and ensuring necessary paperwork was filed to facilitate their release the following morning.

Davido speaks amid Ubi Franklin’s theft allegations
