Two men arrested for the gruesome murder of a couple

The dead bodies of a North West couple were discovered days apart in Dithakong East village this week. Two suspects were arrested for the alleged double murder on Thursday, 23 June.


In a statement on Saturday, 25 June, the provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena applauded a multi-disciplinary team for the arrests.

The bodies of Macdonald Stevens, 48, and Baitibadi Maduna, 42, were found in bushes in Dithakong East village on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively.

“It was established during investigation that the girlfriend’s body was found with some body parts missing,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

The couple was reported missing on the same day Stevens’ body was found. They were last seen alive at his residence in Mapetla Section, Setlopo Village in Mahikeng on Thursday, 16 June.

The suspects – aged 25 and 26 – were arrested on Thursday in Randfontein and Setlopo Village, respectively.

“In addition, the boyfriend’s stolen Toyota Quantum minibus was found with parts stripped off in Lenasia, Gauteng Province,” said the police spokesperson.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabotho on Monday, 27 June on two charges of kidnapping, murder and one count of carjacking.
