Top official: I regret signing Amoo at height of rape scandal

Jesper Jansson, who will next month be appointed sports director of Swedish club IFK Goteborg, has now admitted he should not have signed former Super Eagles invitee Akinkunmi Amoo while he was being tried for rape.

Jansson first signed Amoo to Swedish club Hammarby and when the player was in the thick of a rape scandal in Denmark, he signed him for Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.

Critics have protested his appointment by Goteborg, citing his signing of Amoo as one of their reasons

“We should not have made that transfer,” he now said.

“I recruited the player to Sweden as a young man and have worked with him for a long time, which contributed to my not seeing all the perspectives.

“He is now convicted and the verdict is final.

“I want to be absolutely clear that I distance myself. I have my values, which are fully in line with those of IFK.”
