When an independent candidate withdraws, as it happened in Lusaka Central, ECZ cancels the election and calls for fresh nomination.
The person who resigns cannot appear on the ballot. ECZ must print fresh ballot papers for the election to go ahead on the 15th September as scheduled.
When a candidate sponsored by the party decides to join another party as it happened in Mpulungu, an election gets cancelled.
ECZ must take full responsibility for abdicating the role as an independent referee to gain the new role as intepreters of the Constitution, which wasn’t their role. Also the law enforcement agencies are not helping our democracy as candidates now live in fear of summons instead of being let to freely campaign.
