Super Eagles pick transfer-linked Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Ekong, Awoniyi recalled

Both Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who are locked in transfer issues with their Italian clubs, have been called up for next month’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers, while there is a recall for William Ekong, Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Super Eagles face Benin in Uyo on September 7, before flying to Rwanda three days later to open their qualifying campaign for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Osimhen and Lookman could transfer away from Napoli and Atalanta before Friday midnight’s transfer deadline day.

Osimhen, 25, has yet to play a competitive game for Napoli as his transfer from the Serie A club lingers on, while Lookman featured for Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid earlier this month.

The Eagles have also handed recalls for several players who did not feature in 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

The players include Ekong, Nottingham Forest pair of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi as well as FC Nantes winger Moses Simon and Portugal-based defender Bruno Onyemaechi, who were sidelined by injury then.

The called up players are expected in training camp in Uyo from Monday, September 2.

It is a formidable squad, who will be led by new coach Bruno Labbadia, whose appointment was announced earlier Tuesday.
