Super Eagles happy to remain unbeaten on road to 2025 AFCON

Both caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen and captain William Ekong have saluted the Super Eagles for qualifying for the 2025 AFCON without losing a game.

Nigeria fought back from a first-half goal to draw 1-1 with Benin in Abidjan Thursday night to win Group D of the 2025 AFCON qualifying series.

They recorded an unassailable 11 points from five matches.

“We wanted to qualify without losing a game,” Eguavoen said in a post-match press briefing.

“We tried to win the game, worst case scenario a draw.

“We’re capable of this because we have all the qualities to beat anybody, any day, any time.

“Nigeria are a team well respected, we almost won the AFCON last time.

“So, we had to try and maintain that standard.”

“It was a fair result and we’re very happy to have qualified and remain unbeaten in this campaign,” Ekong added.

“We were a bit unlucky with their goal because the person missing in the far post was Victor Osimhen and he was at the other end of the pitch.”

Nigeria will round up their qualifying campaign for Morocco 2025 Monday evening in Uyo against Rwanda.
