Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has said his team went through a most traumatic ordeal in Libya.
It was a harrowing experience that lasted over 20 hours as the Super Eagles were held hostage at an abandoned airport far away from the venue of a 2025 AFCON qualifier against home team Libya.
“Thanks to the Libyans for letting us go, but it was a horrible 18-20 hours of experience and we don’t want to go through that again,” said Eguavoen on arrival in Nigeria Monday.
“We know how football can unite the entire world, but in this regard, for them to act like this, I cannot really comprehend.
“It’s quite unfortunate”.
“CAF are human, they would do their investigations and come up with solutions”
Team spokesman Promise Efoghe said it was a deliberate ploy by Libya to frustrate the Super Eagles before the match.
“It was sheer desperation on the part of Libya. They did everything to frustrate us before the match,” he said.
