Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is counting hugely on the versatility of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi for the must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.
Ndidi has played as an attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder and even as a central defender for his Premier League club.
Officials told SCORENigeria that the coach now has the option to play Ndidi in his usual defensive midfield position or even as a central defender for the qualifiers.
“There are a few problems in defence, Semi Ajayi is injured, while captain Ekong is nursing a minor injury and so if it became necessary, the coach could even play Ndidi in the heart of the defence, that’s how highly he rates the Leicester City man,” an official told SCORENigeria
The coach met with Ndidi during his recent tour of England, where he also visited Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
The Super Eagles battle Rwanda on March 21, before a home game against Zimbabwe four days later as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume.
