Sharks sign French hooker to help turn around forward fortunes

The Sharks have whipped out their chequebook – yet again – to sign former France hooker Yannick Bru.

Bru, who was capped 18 times for Les Bleus between 2001 and 2004, served as forwards coach with the France national team for five years.

The now 49-year-old also completed five years as Toulouse forwards coach, as well as four years at Bayonne.

Bru will fulfil a pivotal role at the Durban outfit under incoming director of rugby Neil Powell as part of a widespread overhaul of the management structure.

Meanwhile, the Sharks have also signed a key member of Jake White’s coaching staff at the Bulls.

According to Sport24, the KwaZulu-Natal union have snapped up highly-rated defence coach Joey Mongalo.

Sharks have largely failed to deliver

Despite splashing out a fortune all player signings in recent times, the Sharks have largely failed to deliver on the field of play, missing out on the Currie Cup semi-finals and crashing out of the URC at the quarter-final stage this season.

Mongalo joined the Bulls after White took up the role as director of rugby in Pretoria and has been part of the team for the past two seasons.
